Not Making Money Online - Internet Promotions - Advantages and Disadvantages

Internet Promotion - Advantages and Disadvantages

Internet Promotion - Advantages and Disadvantages
By Carla Lendor

The emergence of globalise trade, increase in foreign investment and cross-border transactions have put many small businesses under pressure to find innovative ways to continue to market their products and services. This is especially difficult given that they often operate on tight marketing budgets.

In the quest for cheap marketing alternatives, these small businesses continue to use conventional marketing tools such as newspaper, magazine, radio and television advertisements, unaware of the advantages that Internet Promotion offers. All too often, these entrepreneurs focus on the disadvantages of Internet Promotion and fail to adequately take advantage of the opportunities that it presents. Moreover, their preoccupation with conventional marketing strategies is driven by a misconception that these are cheaper than Internet Promotion.

To most small business entrepreneurs, marketing or promoting their products or services via the Internet can be a daunting task. However, with adequate information small businesses can benefit significantly from Internet Promotion while minimising the disadvantages that it presents. In fact, it may prove to be the marketing strategy that generates the highest return on investment.

The Advantages

Cost Effective and Enduring Marketing Strategies

The Internet has become the information superhighway for the buying public. Most persons prefer the hassle free transactions that Internet shopping can offer. As a result, the Internet has become the most powerful selling tool. Internet Promotion offers cost effective ways for small businesses to enhance their product or service distribution networks. For example, the use of portals can help create new marketing channels and logistics, or provide better or faster product access for customers.

In comparison to other forms of marketing, Internet Promotion presents the advantage of reduced budget and storage costs, when compared with printing brochures, producing television or radio advertisements or managing a call centre. It presents a fast and cost effective option for penetrating new markets.

Market Penetration

With millions of person using the Internet to search for products and services, small businesses can penetrate other markets at a fraction of the cost of traditional marketing methods.

Websites act as virtual storefronts, allowing businesses to stay open 24/7. Internet Promotion gives a business greater visibility, thereby creating more opportunities for increasing its customers at relatively low cost. Never before has it been easier for an upstart business to be able to reach out to literally millions of potential customers and to position themselves for success, without the need for costly infrastructure and overwhelming marketing costs. Thanks to the Internet, new businesses can become popular almost overnight.

Low Cost, Instant Communication

Email makes business communications instant, whether the customer or business affiliate is across the street or across the globe. It makes it easier for customers to maintain contact and readily facilitates repeat purchasing. An effective online strategy can therefore turn a small web business into a virtual cost saver and income-generating machine. The net result is that the small business can gain significant competitive advantage in a given market.

Many online businesses have therefore resorted to the use of ezines, blogs, pop-up ads and other online marketing tools to let customers know about new products or services as well as provide information relevant to their respective industry. The benefits of this strategy are two fold. Marketers can effectively heighten brand awareness for relatively new products on the market whilst strengthening customer relationships, with shorter time frames.

Content is Timeless

Internet Promotion also provides the advantage of being enduring. Whereas participation at a trade fair or conference loses sales impact, once it is over, and an advertisement in a newspaper or business magazine may quickly lose its sales generating value within a day or two or as soon as the next issue is released; Internet Promotion is often timeless. Apart from the dates and sometimes prices, much of your website content remains valid years after.

Real Time Statistics For Measuring Success of Promotion Campaign

One of the most significant advantages of Internet Promotion is that its success is measurable. Marketers can use tools that provide real time statistics, on unique visitors, repeat visitors, click through rates (CTR) on advertisements, thereby allowing them to evaluate the effectiveness of a promotion campaign. This enables marketers to determine what works for their particular market and to make timely changes in their marketing strategies.

Time Saving

Another important advantage of Internet Promotion is that it saves time since it generally does away with counselling on product uses and benefits, service information and sales administration. Visitors can access "frequently asked questions" to help themselves, and can buy online, without the involvement of staff. This saves time and money. So, whether 10 or 10,000 visitors visit the site, the increased cost is marginal whilst the savings can be immense.

But like any business approach, Internet Promotion is not without its risks and weaknesses.

Disadvantages

Difficulty in Attracting Customers

Small business may not have the resources to pay for paid directory inclusion, pay per click inclusions and often have to rely solely on search engine optimisation or word of mouth to drive traffic to their sites. With millions of businesses selling the same product and services, competing with more established businesses can be frustrating and costly venture for small business.

On the other hand, larger companies can offer promotions, pay for directory inclusions, implement pay per click campaigns as well as employ the “who is who” in internet marketing to develop campaigns that generate traffic and leads.

Difficulty in Evaluating Legitimacy of Transaction

Another notable disadvantage of doing promoting businesses online is that it may be difficult for the businesspersons and consumers to thoroughly evaluate the legitimacy of a transaction. Small businesses are particularly vulnerable to thieves using stolen credit cards and stolen information to do online transaction.

With Internet credit card and identity fraud on the rise, small businesses are forced to finance costly security measures to reduce their vulnerability to fraudulent transactions.

Salespersons and Customers are Isolated

Another disadvantage of promotion via the Internet is that the customers and businesspersons are isolated. There is little personal contact between customer and salesperson prior to and after the sales is closed. Thus, the prospect for repeat sales may thus be diminished. Entrepreneurs are therefore compelled to adopt marketing strategies to drive online users back to their site.

From all indications, it appears that the advantages of Internet promotion, far exceed the disadvantages. With adequate knowledge, entrepreneur can benefit significantly from Internet promotion, especially small business owners.

More and more, the growth and outreach of the Internet’s, its ease and accessibility for customers is becoming inevitable. Small business would therefore be well advised to start their web advertising function in order to improve their competitiveness online.

Not Making Money Online - Search Engine Friendly Ways to Build Link Popularity

Search Engine Friendly Ways to Build Link Popularity

Search Engine Friendly Ways to Build Link Popularity
By Michael Lawrence

Acquiring relevant backlinks to your website is one of the most important parts of any Search Engine Optimization campaign. The search engine's and especially Google value backlinks to your website as an indicator of your website's importance. If a large number of webmaster's have decided to link to your content then you must be an important information hub in your target keyword marketplace.

Link Popularity Checker

www.uptimebot.com – lists link popularity for all major search engines.
If you can manage to get a large number of links from similar or complimentary websites that are ranked high by the search engine's then your website should also start to climb the search engine rankings and increase the traffic to your site. Of course the quality of links, the anchor text of the links, the total number of links, the content of the page your link is on, how many outbound links are on the page, and the ranking of the page your link is on are all extremely important factors to consider when developing a linking strategy for your business.

When adding your links to resource directories where you have control over your link remember to utilize all the tools you have available to you to get the most out of the backlink to your site.

Place your keywords in img “alt” tags (if you have an image with your link), link “title” tag, and in the anchor text for your link. You have to remember that when a search engine visits a site that has a backlink to you that they have no idea what your website is about yet. Of course the search engine spider will make decisions based on it's evaluation of the webpage but you can help them (and yourself) out by applying these simple principles to all backlinks you have control over. If you are submitting to a directory make sure you place your link under a category that has your keywords in the title of the category if possible.

You also have the option of “buying” links to your website, a strategy that has worked and continues to work now, but the search engine's frown on this practice and have a tendency to black hole websites involved in “link farming” techniques. It's ok to purchase advertising or to seek out strategic partnerships for reciprocal linking of course but purchasing links for the sole purposes of boosting your search rankings is against Google's Terms of Service.

Trust me when I say Google can tell with pretty good accuracy who is buying their links and who is not. It really isn't that hard to tell and does not require that much analysis to figure out. You can perform this type of analysis for yourself, and you should do this to see what the competition in your market is doing. If you do purchase links make sure these are not the only links back to your site. The search engine's like to see a “natural” growth to the number and quality of your backlinks. Having a couple of high ranking links and no others is a big red flag. Any site that grows naturally will have a pyramidal distribution of links with the greatest number of links at or near the bottom of the ranking ladder.

So you don't want your site to get black holed but you do want to accelerate the rate at which your website climbs the search engine rankings and hence see the benefits of free targeted traffic to your website. The good news is there are several Search Engine friendly ways to improve your link popularity:

1. Write Articles and have them published

The search engine's love content filled web pages since these pages are providing information not just advertising. Writing articles related to your website topic and having them published on high ranking websites is a great first step to building your link popularity.

You may not have traffic coming to your site yet, but these article sites sure do. If someone likes your article a number of these article publishing sites will allow the user to download the article for use on their site. You are allowed to include a resource box with your article which you would obviously use to place a link to your website. Submit your articles to as many article submission sites as you can, they are hungry for your content.

2. Publish a Blog

This is a similar idea to writing articles except that you will have total editorial control of your Blog content. Feel free to weave in a few product and affiliate links where appropriate in your Blog content (something many article sites frown upon). Submit your blog to Blog and Web directories to help build the link popularity for your blog. Make sure you link your blog to your main website so anyone reading your Blog will be able to find you. You can also have your Blog syndicated via RSS to really explode your exposure. Be sure to add a resource box to the end of each article with a link to your website so that anyone syndicating your article via RSS will be able to find you.

http://www.blogger.com – the internet's most popular blogging service

http://www.geeklog.net – run your own blog on your own website with this free php-mysql package

http://www.masternewmedia.org/rss/top55/ - great listing of sites accepting RSS/Atom feeds, or Blog submissions.

3. Submit to Web Directories

There are literally thousands of Web Directories on the internet that will provide you a link to your site either for free, free with a reciprocal link, or for a fee. The most useful listing to have would be in the DMOZ.org directory which is the largest and most respected web directory on the internet. Getting listed can take 6-9 months if at all so you will definitely have to add some other directory targets to your short term plans.

Yahoo! offers an express paid directory listing for $299 USD a year which may be worth the price for your particular website. There are also a number of Quality Free Web Directories that should be on your to do list. Remember to submit to the most relevant category and preferably one with your keywords in the title and link anchor text.

http://www.seocompany.ca/directory/free-web-directories.html - excellent listing of free web directories

http://www.dmoz.org – the holy grail of free directory listings

http://docs.yahoo.com/info/suggest/busexpress.html - information on Yahoo Paid inclusion

4. Purchase links or seek out Link Partners

As long as you are continuing to build your links naturally utilizing the techniques above you can supplement your backlink count with a few carefully purchased links on high traffic sites. This can give you a double benefit of helping you boost your link popularity and also provide you a stream of traffic from the website itself if you have targeted your purchase correctly. If your site is about real estate, consider purchasing links in a real estate directory that has a large amount of traffic.

5. Post in relevant Forums

Search engine's love forums because they are moderated by humans and have a lot of ever-changing content on them. These types of sites are indexed regularly and can be a great place to spread the word about your site and gain link popularity. Every time you post your “signature” is attached to your posting which should contain a link to your site if you have set it up correctly.

6. Provide valuable original content or tools on your website

Writing articles or having unique tools that people would find valuable on your website are great ways to build up backlinks without having to expend effort. If you provide a great tool on your site for free other webmasters will link up to your site without you having to solicit them. The internet is an information source for most people, so give them what they want.

7. Seek Out Complimentary Link Partners

If you find resources that compliment the services you offer on your website, consider contacting the owner's of these websites and trading links with them. Do not make these judgments based on the site's page rank but rather focus on how relevant the other site's content is to yours.

http://www.reciprocalmanager.com – excellent program to manage your links directory

Google Tools (type these into the google search form)

Allinurl: ”keywords” – tells you all sites with “keywords” in their site URL

Allintitle: ”keywords” – tells you all sites with “keywords” in the site title tag

Allinanchor: ”keywords” – provides a listing of WebPages that contain “keywords” in the anchor text of links on those pages

Link: www.competitordomain.com – tells you who is linking to competitordomain. These sites may want to link back to your site as well (also works on MSN.com ).

For Yahoo:

Linkdomain: www.competitordomain.com – same as link: for Google, MSN

Not Making Money Online - Create Product for Long Term Income

Internet marketing is comprised of two types of marketers - those who create value and develop long term futures, and those who ride on the tides of fads, and are only strong when they pick good fads.

What are some recent fads?

How about banner ads, SPAM, web rings, FFA sites, linking scams, and perhaps even now mass article marketing. As of late, it seems there is a new Adsense fad every other month.

So what does it take to be a long-term player online?

I think you just have to look at the internet marketers who have achieved long run success. I choose not to name names, but if you have been around for awhile, you know who they are. And run the list in your mind. Is there a single one who is still successful, that has not created products and continued to create products long-term? Is there a single fad-rider who is still in the game, unless he has chosen to convert to creating products?

By creating your own products, you develop name recognition and buyer loyalty.

Why? I have to think that it is your own subscriber loyalty - and they may have never purchased a product directly from you. Everything they have read of yours may have been a free product. Anything they have bought from you may have been an affiliate product or a private label resale product.

Create products or die.

Not Making Money Online - Make Money Through Your Own Product Part 2.

Perhaps you have written several ebooks, and are thinking about writing another, but are hesitating because you remember the time it took to write the first one. Or maybe you have never written an ebook because you feel overwhelmed by the task. You think it would takes months or years, and you simply aren’t sure where to begin.

Regardless of the category you fall into, I challenge you to try this method. It will quickly and easily produce for you a quality product in an amazingly short period of time.

Follow these steps:

1) Decide on your topic. If you already know, skip this step. If not, write down a list of all the things you know enough about to teach someone else, and that you have the willingness to learn some more about. Take that list to a keyword inventory tool like the one Overture uses, and find out which of your topics gets a high number of keyword searches online. Narrow this list down to about two or three possible topics that get a lot of searches. Next, search for forums online that are related to these topics and spend some time reading the posts. You should very quickly be able to discern where the most interest lies. Then, make a decision! You can always write the other ebook later! Indecision is one of the great limiting factors online.

2) Write a list of twenty topics that are related to your main topic. These will be your chapters.

3) Write a list of 10 ideas related to each of your topics (so you will have a total of 200 ideas, 10 for each topic).

4) Begin writing. Simply write 1-3 paragraphs about each of the ideas you listed in step 3.

5) When you are finished writing on each of these topics, organize them and make sure that they flow naturally from one idea to another.

6) Write an introductory chapter, briefly touching on some of the main topics about which you have already written.

7) Write a closing chapter, giving your readers reminders about the practical things you have taught that they can go out and apply in their own lives.

8) Proof read your ebook. Have at least 2 other people read it, and take their suggestions seriously enough to read over what they question, but not seriously enough to rewrite significant portions of the book. There has to be balance here. You see, you want a readable, easy to understand book with no grammar and spelling errors, but if you try to make the book all things to all people, you will never publish it.

9) Go to adobe’s web site and upload it to a PDF for free. They give you 5 free trial conversions, so take advantage of the service.

Now you have your first (or next) ebook!

Making Money Online

Not Making Money Online - Make Money Through Your Own Product.

If you have never written a book or developed a product before, creating a brand-new information product may seem downright daunting to you today. In this article, I will break down the steps to creating your own product to their rawest elements.

What is an information product? An information product teaches someone else how to do something you can do well. It can be in the form of a book, an ebook, an audio (CD) series, or a video series.

1) What can you do well, or know a lot about? You must first determine a topic for your product. Are you a fisherman, a good dog trainer, or do you know how to shop using coupons and save money every week? Anything you can do well that could benefit others if they could too, is a great product.

2) Write down an outline of all the things you know about your topic. Literally everything.

3) Organize all the things from 2) into categories of information. For example, in the fishing example, list ten different types of fishing.

4) Under each category, list everything you know about those categories.

5) Start writing what you know. Do not worry about grammar or even spelling. You will catch all of that when you proof read. You want to write from your heart, sharing all the information you can. If you are constantly correcting yourself, you will find it difficult to keep writing as effectively.

6) If you really have a hard time starting the process of writing, think of each topic as an article. So write an article on each topic. When you have written an article on each topic, put them all together and you have your book.

7) You can use this same process for an audio or video---you will just be talking instead of writing. But you still need to write out the categories and topics, and write good notes so you cover everything.

8) Be sure and proof whatever you do, and have at least one other person read it. There is nothing more embarrassing than seeing your own mistake in print.

9) Pull it all together, find a publisher, create a PDF file, or record your product. Once you are satisfied with it, the hard work begins! Marketing!

Not Making Money Online - Internet Marketing is Easy Entry Business

Internet marketing is what we call in business school, an easy-entry business. Anybody can do it, with less than 100 dollars.

The problem with easy-entry businesses is that because everyone can get it, most people fail.

People don’t think before they make decisions. In their head somewhere, they feel that just because they have only invested 100, that the returns on the business are low. And they somehow manage to match their expectations.

If they do make a few hundred dollars, they manage to take it all and buy a few nice dinners, to compensate themselves for their time.

The serious internet marketer, on the other hand, will think himself grateful to be able to go into business for himself for less than 100 dollars, and reinvest every dollar that comes in.

The most expensive part of getting started online is traffic generation.

Traffic generation is either expensive in time, or expensive in money. But it has to be spent.

So how do you make the campaign profitable? There is only one way: measure everything.

Just like running a science or economics experiment, every input must be measured, every output must be measured.

The outputs on every campaign must be greater than the inputs on those very campaigns. There is no other way about it. Anything else is gamble. You must remember, you are building a business, not managing a night out in Vegas.

You must measure every dollar you spend in terms of the visitor, subscriber or sale made, and you must do the same thing for revenue. In every match, in every campaign, the revenues must exceed the costs. You cannot cheat here.

Measure everything.

Making money Online - Through Forum Traffic

Forum advertising is one of my least favorite, not because of the response rate, but because it is just downright boring to me. But I felt it was only fair to talk about it here; you can choose to use it or not!

Basically, forums are online information exchanges where many people who have an interest in a similar topic will gather to talk online and ask questions.

One thing that is important is that you only use forums that are pretty closely related to your topic. Here are the steps involved in utilizing forums:

1) Find all the forums that pertain to your web site’s topic. Go to a search engine and type in your topic and the word ‘forum’

2) Go to the first forum. If you have never used a forum before, take a few minutes to get a feel for how it works. Basically, members of the forum will share information and answer questions for each other. There are usually different areas of the forum set up for different specific topics.

3) Become a member of the forum. In the process of signing up, you should have the opportunity to create a personalized signature. A signature is a line or block of text that will appear at the end of every post you make. Include your web site address (preferably your squeeze page address) in your forum.

4) Go the introductions section and introduce yourself.

5) Begin to read through the various forums and begin posting. You can either answer questions people have asked to which you have useful information, or you can offer new information. The key here is that every post you create has a link to your site. When people read your posts, they can click through to your site and join your mailing list. One thing that is important here is that the forums are looking for good quality information and posts, not blatant advertising, in exchange for letting you post your link in the signature area. Don’t abuse this, or you will be removed from the forum.

The key with generating traffic with forums is to spend time everyday in all the forums you join. Just like all other forms of traffic generation, this must be an ongoing effort. You cannot simply spend five hours posting to forums one day, and expect to get traffic for the next year.

Making Money Online – Using Web Traffic To Market Products

So now you have a book to sell, a web page to sell it on, and now all you need is some visitors to come see your page.

There are many ways to generate visitors, and generally in this arena, the money you spend will be about proportionate to how good of a lead or visitor they are. By this I mean that this area of web resource is fairly well advanced, and just about everybody that has a web site and is serious about their business is using some form of traffic generation or another.

This is a really broad field, and if you type in “web traffic” to any search engine you will come up with wildly different levels of traffic and qualities of traffic. If you see a ‘deal’ that is too good to be true, it probably is.

With that in mind, I want to briefly cover the types of web traffic that there are. Web traffic ranges from almost worthless to very targeted and productive. For example, on the almost worthless end you have types of traffic like pop-under or exit traffic, guaranteed hits, surf traffic, and banner impression traffic.

Without going into a lot of detail on how each of those forms of traffic work, they all generally work on the principle of very high volume. So for example, maybe it will take 10,000 visitors or more to get one person to buy your book, or even express an interest. If you go into these forms of traffic thinking you will buy 10,000 or 20,000 visitors and wait and see what happens, you will be very disappointed.

This type of traffic is much more effective when purchased in large quantities, and instead of sending them directly to your sales page, you send them to what is generally called a ‘squeeze page’, where they are very quickly offered a free ebook or set of lessons, in exchange for their name and email address. What this allows you to do is capture the person’s information so instead of just having one opportunity to sell them as they look at your sales page, you can begin an email campaign, sending them some informative letters via email every few days. Your intent there will be to direct them to your web site after developing some contact with them. This way you have multiple attempts to present them with your sales offer.

One thing that is extremely important is tracking everything you do, especially with this type of traffic. For example, if you spend $300 on 100,000 hits from one source or one company and you make 10 $30 sales, then you have only broken even. But perhaps from another source or company you spend the same $300 on only 10,000 hits, but you make 20 $30 sales, then you are in profit. It is very important to remember that all visitors are not the same, and just because on average you spend $15 to generate a $30 sale, that doesn’t mean that is your benchmark. You must consistently track everything you do, so you can make adjustments. If you spend $1000 one month and only sell $1000 worth of books, that doesn’t mean you are lost and unable to make money with that book, unless you aren’t tracking things. If you are tracking everything, you will probably realize that you spent $200 on one source that provided almost all of your sales, and $800 on a mixed bag of other sources that barely cleared you $100. So do the math here. On one campaign, you spent $200 and took in $900 and on another you spent $800 and took in $100. So was your month a total loss? No, it was not. Now you know where not to advertise or buy traffic from, and where you can triple up on your spending, and clear a profit the next month. You should be able to see by now how important it is to track every sale and visitor you receive.

Making Money Online -Traffic Generation Continues

Now, going up the list in terms of quality, you will have PPC traffic generation (this isn’t really next long-term, but if you don’t know what you are doing, you can lose your shirt in a hurry with these, so be careful).

There is also ezine advertising, and article marketing, which, when done correctly, can be very profitable.

These are two forms of traffic generation that generally produce a much higher quality visitor than the ones mentioned earlier. Ezine advertising is more costly per visitor, and article marketing, although it can be done on a budget, is time consuming.

Now, everything is relative. You see, you will be spending more per visitor for these visitors, but when they come to your site they already have an interest in your type of product. They are a much more targeted visitor, and as such, are much more likely to purchase from you.

There is not much to say here about ezine advertising, except to try it out and experiment with various ads in various ezines. Again, it is important to track all your traffic and the source of your sales. You see, if you advertise in 10 ezines and receive 10 sales, it is very unlikely that each ezine produced one sale each. One ezine producing 8 sales, and another producing 2 sales, with the other 8 ezines producing nothing is probably much more realistic. For this reason, you must track, and it is also advisable to advertise in several at one time. For example, with the case just mentioned, if you had only advertised in some of the ones that didn’t produce, you would have a bad feeling for ezine advertising, and if you had gotten lucky and advertised in the one that produced the most sales, you would have become over-zealous regarding ezine advertising. But by purchasing several ads and tracking your results, you have a much more realistic picture of what ezine advertising can do.

Article marketing. This has recently become a very popular area of advertising, although it has probably always been effective.

What it entails is writing short, informative articles on the same topic as your book and including a link to your website at the end of the article. You then submit the articles to the various article submission directories. When they publish the articles, ezine directories pick up your article and use it as content for their ezine or newsletter. So, in a sense, it reaches the same market as the ezine advertising, but with a different cost. I say different, because although you are not paying for the article to appear, you also have no control over where it appears. The idea is that if you write a good article, the ezine editors will include it because they feel it is good information for their readers. It is also time consuming to write articles and submit them to the various article directories.

Now, just like everything on the web, there is an answer to that, but now you are spending money again. There are several article submission services out there that can submit your article to the various directories, for a reasonable fee. The advantage here is that you aren’t spending a ridiculous amount of time submitting the articles, but keep in mind that some of the better article directories won’t accept the automated submissions. The key here is to track what you, and check up on your articles to be sure they appear with all your links intact. This goes for whether you submit them yourself, or you have a submission service do it for you.

Ok, now for PPC click campaigns. These are pay-per-click campaigns that work exactly as the name implies. You pay when someone clicks on your website. They also have their good points and their drawbacks. They are wonderful for testing aspects of your web site, because in some campaigns you can have every other visitor go to a different version of your site, and track the conversion rate of different qualities of your page. They are good at simply bringing targeted visitors to your site. The drawbacks, however, are many, and I am not going to cover them here.

As you can see here, there are many different methods for generating traffic, and in some sense they can probably all fit into your strategy for generating sales. It is important, though, that you tailor each sales page or sales letter or squeeze page to the type of advertising you are running. You can have a great source of traffic but if you are ineffective at capturing either email information or the sale, you will not be productive. And each form of traffic requires a little different approach.

Another point here. Since there are so many different ways to generate traffic, which should you try, and should you try all of them? I suggest you choose a couple or three that you might feel comfortable with, or at least understand how they work. Also, do not try to use 25 different types of traffic the first month or two into this project. It is far better to choose two or three and focus on getting good at selling to that customer. It is so easy to get caught up in trying something new every single week, and never really making any money. Stick with a few, and master them.

Making Money Online -3 Keys to Traffic Generation

If you are just getting started online, you have visions of how much traffic there is, just floating around in the ether of the internet, just waiting for you to send it to your sales page. If you have been online for awhile, you know that there is a lot of traffic out there, but it is certainly not just waiting for you to send it to your sales page. And if you have been online for a long time, you know that it is not how much traffic you have, but what you do with that traffic that counts.

So, if you are a beginner: Build things right from the beginning. It is not just about sending all kinds of traffic to your web site and sitting back and hoping it will buy something. Instead, send traffic somewhere that allows you to develop a relationship with it. Get to know your traffic. What does it want? Let them get to know you. What do you have to offer them?

How do you do it? First build yourself a squeeze page or landing site or add a web form to your existing web pages that allows your visitors to opt in to your mailing list. Once on your mailing list, get to know them. Introduce yourself. Ask questions. Send useful information. Answer their questions.

So how do you get that traffic in the first place?

1) Write articles and submit them to online article directories. This is one of the best places to find quality, targeted traffic. One of the things I like about writing articles is that it gives me an opportunity to show my visitor, even before they are a visitor, what I am made out of. They can see my style, get a feel for my knowledge, without risking a thing. If they like me in the article, they can opt in to my mailing list and learn more from me. If they do not like my style, they can close the article without any further action.

2) Use pay-per-click campaigns like Adsense or Overture. These campaigns allow you to specifically bid on targeted keyword traffic and have it sent directly to your site. You are paying for this traffic, so it is important that you are able to convert a reasonable percentage of it to subscribers. Start slow, and don’t feel like you have to be the highest bidder in the game. It is perfectly OK to be in 6th place while you are developing your program.

3) Ezine advertising. This will be one of the more expensive types of traffic you obtain, especially since you pay once for it rather than as you go with pay-per-click. Start with less expensive ads, and as you test and tweak your ads, and they create more response, then upgrade and use those same ads in more expensive slots.

Search Engine Friendly Ways to Build Link Popularity

Making Money Online -How to network without saying a word by Janelle Nanosword

For some schmoozers, networking is the art of working the room, glad-handling folks while oozing charm. But much of networking depends on what you don't say. Often, getting ahead in the game means knowing what messages you're sending before you open your mouth.
The key to networking without words is realizing what you're communicating at all times. "We tend to forget that silence speaks," says Patrick Miller, author of Body Language on the Job. "It's a matter of paying attention and being cognizant of what you're doing nonverbally. Everything you're doing is being watched."
And the watching begins the first second you meet. In Malcolm Gladwell's best-selling book Blink, he spends 288 pages describing the two-second period in which snap judgments are made. This "rapid cognition" about body language, clothing and appearance can help determine whether someone thinks you're a competent candidate or a criminal. "In an interview situation, research shows that positive or negative impressions are made very early on," says Tim Butler, the director of career development programs at Harvard Business School. "Often, the rest of the interview is to confirm the initial impression."

So when networking, it's best to err on the side of formality, says Dr. David Givens, the director of the Center for Nonverbal Studies in Spokane, Wash. It may seem like motherly advice, but Givens insists there's science behind the adage that you should stand up straight and wear a suit. "There are animal vibes [in the business world], and you need to show you're strong," he says. "Fortunately, there are certain optical illusions built into a jacket that make you think a person is bigger and stronger than he or she really is."
A suit's sleeves make arms appear thicker and more intimidating, and padding in the shoulders masks subconscious shrugging that might make you look weak. "The slightest shrug will be seen and decoded unconsciously that you're not 100% sure of what you're doing," Givens says.
Then there's the added benefit of the flare of the lapel--up and out--which gives the appearance of puffing out your chest, also conveying strength. "That's why the suit jacket has survived," he says. "It has these messages built in."
And the tie? It serves its animalistic purpose as well, creating a vertical line down the chest, making one appear taller and covering the notch below the Adam's apple that's instinctively seen as a weak point (as in "go for the jugular").
And despite endless analysis of the red "power tie," it's actually best to choose one that's a pastel shade, says Givens, who has found that adding white to a strong color helps to make you seem more approachable on first glance. "You're more likable in lighter colors, as you let a sense of purity and trust show through," he says.
Hand gestures are a decisive way to make a nonverbal impression (as anyone who has ever been cut off on the highway will tell you). But there are far better ways to use your hands. "Avoid looking at your watch, rubbing your nose and arranging your hair," says Miller. "All these unconscious grooming habits collectively paint a picture that you're uncomfortable."
Instead, use your hands to your advantage by keeping them on the table, Givens suggests, since it makes you appear more actively engaged in the discussion. The same connection can be made while dropping off a memo by pausing momentarily and placing your hand on the person's desk. "It shows that you're confident by getting into their territory in an assertive way," says Givens. "It sends a subtle message that you've been closer to them, and that little gesture can sometimes make a difference and stick in the memory, giving you an edge over someone else."
When meeting someone for the first time, a good handshake is vital, says Kevin Ferrazzi, professional development consultant and author of Never Eat Alone. He suggests a pair of techniques often used by Bill Clinton that can help you stand out: The two-handed handshake, which shows your enthusiasm, and the quick grab of the elbow, which draws people in. "The ability to extend your hand and pull people in is a powerful way to connect with someone," he says.
And don't forget to look them in the eye. "I cannot overemphasize the importance of eye contact," says Ferrazzi. "There is nothing worse that the smarmy eye-darter who's consistently looking around the room for someone more important to talk to."
"In America, the expectation for eye contact is extraordinarily high, somewhere north of 90%," says Butler. "Looking away and breaking off contact is often interpreted as a lack of self-confidence or uncertainty." He often has to teach international students to let go of their cultural habits of looking away in deference and allow their eyes to linger.
But it's also important to share attention when listening in a group setting. "A mistake that people often make is to give excessive eye contact to the dominant individual," says Butler. "Zeroing in on the power brokers is obvious behavior. It's not only bad manners, but you're really ignoring people who are important. You need to sweep [your vision] and ensure that you're including everybody. Decisions aren't made just by the boss--they're made by groups."
Most of all, the experts stress, it's important to appear authentic. Actively listen to people while they're talking to you, and extend an open palm in their direction to show you understand what they're saying, says Givens. Try to know who you'll be talking to before you're introduced, and carry a pen and paper to jot down notes on their family, job and interests that you can use later. And don't pull out your business card too quickly, Ferrazzi warns, or you risk pushing your credentials onto someone who might actually be more interested in you as a person, thereby ruining the beginning of a beautiful network.
