Making Money Online - Through Different Niches

Sometimes we find it difficult to come up with niches that we are passionate about and which can make us money and benefit others. We fall into this trap that every niche has to be complicated, but there are niches all around us that we can profit from. Look at your hobbies, look around you whiles you drive, whiles you are going to work, whiles you at work, look around your house and offices. Tons of money is all around us but we are thinking too hard. All we have to do is be creative and see what great profitable niches we can come up with.

Making money Online - Through Forum Traffic

Forum advertising is one of my least favorite, not because of the response rate, but because it is just downright boring to me. But I felt it was only fair to talk about it here; you can choose to use it or not!

Basically, forums are online information exchanges where many people who have an interest in a similar topic will gather to talk online and ask questions.

One thing that is important is that you only use forums that are pretty closely related to your topic. Here are the steps involved in utilizing forums:

1) Find all the forums that pertain to your web site’s topic. Go to a search engine and type in your topic and the word ‘forum’

2) Go to the first forum. If you have never used a forum before, take a few minutes to get a feel for how it works. Basically, members of the forum will share information and answer questions for each other. There are usually different areas of the forum set up for different specific topics.

3) Become a member of the forum. In the process of signing up, you should have the opportunity to create a personalized signature. A signature is a line or block of text that will appear at the end of every post you make. Include your web site address (preferably your squeeze page address) in your forum.

4) Go the introductions section and introduce yourself.

5) Begin to read through the various forums and begin posting. You can either answer questions people have asked to which you have useful information, or you can offer new information. The key here is that every post you create has a link to your site. When people read your posts, they can click through to your site and join your mailing list. One thing that is important here is that the forums are looking for good quality information and posts, not blatant advertising, in exchange for letting you post your link in the signature area. Don’t abuse this, or you will be removed from the forum.

The key with generating traffic with forums is to spend time everyday in all the forums you join. Just like all other forms of traffic generation, this must be an ongoing effort. You cannot simply spend five hours posting to forums one day, and expect to get traffic for the next year.

Making Money Online – Using Web Traffic To Market Products

So now you have a book to sell, a web page to sell it on, and now all you need is some visitors to come see your page.

There are many ways to generate visitors, and generally in this arena, the money you spend will be about proportionate to how good of a lead or visitor they are. By this I mean that this area of web resource is fairly well advanced, and just about everybody that has a web site and is serious about their business is using some form of traffic generation or another.

This is a really broad field, and if you type in “web traffic” to any search engine you will come up with wildly different levels of traffic and qualities of traffic. If you see a ‘deal’ that is too good to be true, it probably is.

With that in mind, I want to briefly cover the types of web traffic that there are. Web traffic ranges from almost worthless to very targeted and productive. For example, on the almost worthless end you have types of traffic like pop-under or exit traffic, guaranteed hits, surf traffic, and banner impression traffic.

Without going into a lot of detail on how each of those forms of traffic work, they all generally work on the principle of very high volume. So for example, maybe it will take 10,000 visitors or more to get one person to buy your book, or even express an interest. If you go into these forms of traffic thinking you will buy 10,000 or 20,000 visitors and wait and see what happens, you will be very disappointed.

This type of traffic is much more effective when purchased in large quantities, and instead of sending them directly to your sales page, you send them to what is generally called a ‘squeeze page’, where they are very quickly offered a free ebook or set of lessons, in exchange for their name and email address. What this allows you to do is capture the person’s information so instead of just having one opportunity to sell them as they look at your sales page, you can begin an email campaign, sending them some informative letters via email every few days. Your intent there will be to direct them to your web site after developing some contact with them. This way you have multiple attempts to present them with your sales offer.

One thing that is extremely important is tracking everything you do, especially with this type of traffic. For example, if you spend $300 on 100,000 hits from one source or one company and you make 10 $30 sales, then you have only broken even. But perhaps from another source or company you spend the same $300 on only 10,000 hits, but you make 20 $30 sales, then you are in profit. It is very important to remember that all visitors are not the same, and just because on average you spend $15 to generate a $30 sale, that doesn’t mean that is your benchmark. You must consistently track everything you do, so you can make adjustments. If you spend $1000 one month and only sell $1000 worth of books, that doesn’t mean you are lost and unable to make money with that book, unless you aren’t tracking things. If you are tracking everything, you will probably realize that you spent $200 on one source that provided almost all of your sales, and $800 on a mixed bag of other sources that barely cleared you $100. So do the math here. On one campaign, you spent $200 and took in $900 and on another you spent $800 and took in $100. So was your month a total loss? No, it was not. Now you know where not to advertise or buy traffic from, and where you can triple up on your spending, and clear a profit the next month. You should be able to see by now how important it is to track every sale and visitor you receive.

Making Money Online -Traffic Generation Continues

Now, going up the list in terms of quality, you will have PPC traffic generation (this isn’t really next long-term, but if you don’t know what you are doing, you can lose your shirt in a hurry with these, so be careful).

There is also ezine advertising, and article marketing, which, when done correctly, can be very profitable.

These are two forms of traffic generation that generally produce a much higher quality visitor than the ones mentioned earlier. Ezine advertising is more costly per visitor, and article marketing, although it can be done on a budget, is time consuming.

Now, everything is relative. You see, you will be spending more per visitor for these visitors, but when they come to your site they already have an interest in your type of product. They are a much more targeted visitor, and as such, are much more likely to purchase from you.

There is not much to say here about ezine advertising, except to try it out and experiment with various ads in various ezines. Again, it is important to track all your traffic and the source of your sales. You see, if you advertise in 10 ezines and receive 10 sales, it is very unlikely that each ezine produced one sale each. One ezine producing 8 sales, and another producing 2 sales, with the other 8 ezines producing nothing is probably much more realistic. For this reason, you must track, and it is also advisable to advertise in several at one time. For example, with the case just mentioned, if you had only advertised in some of the ones that didn’t produce, you would have a bad feeling for ezine advertising, and if you had gotten lucky and advertised in the one that produced the most sales, you would have become over-zealous regarding ezine advertising. But by purchasing several ads and tracking your results, you have a much more realistic picture of what ezine advertising can do.

Article marketing. This has recently become a very popular area of advertising, although it has probably always been effective.

What it entails is writing short, informative articles on the same topic as your book and including a link to your website at the end of the article. You then submit the articles to the various article submission directories. When they publish the articles, ezine directories pick up your article and use it as content for their ezine or newsletter. So, in a sense, it reaches the same market as the ezine advertising, but with a different cost. I say different, because although you are not paying for the article to appear, you also have no control over where it appears. The idea is that if you write a good article, the ezine editors will include it because they feel it is good information for their readers. It is also time consuming to write articles and submit them to the various article directories.

Now, just like everything on the web, there is an answer to that, but now you are spending money again. There are several article submission services out there that can submit your article to the various directories, for a reasonable fee. The advantage here is that you aren’t spending a ridiculous amount of time submitting the articles, but keep in mind that some of the better article directories won’t accept the automated submissions. The key here is to track what you, and check up on your articles to be sure they appear with all your links intact. This goes for whether you submit them yourself, or you have a submission service do it for you.

Ok, now for PPC click campaigns. These are pay-per-click campaigns that work exactly as the name implies. You pay when someone clicks on your website. They also have their good points and their drawbacks. They are wonderful for testing aspects of your web site, because in some campaigns you can have every other visitor go to a different version of your site, and track the conversion rate of different qualities of your page. They are good at simply bringing targeted visitors to your site. The drawbacks, however, are many, and I am not going to cover them here.

As you can see here, there are many different methods for generating traffic, and in some sense they can probably all fit into your strategy for generating sales. It is important, though, that you tailor each sales page or sales letter or squeeze page to the type of advertising you are running. You can have a great source of traffic but if you are ineffective at capturing either email information or the sale, you will not be productive. And each form of traffic requires a little different approach.

Another point here. Since there are so many different ways to generate traffic, which should you try, and should you try all of them? I suggest you choose a couple or three that you might feel comfortable with, or at least understand how they work. Also, do not try to use 25 different types of traffic the first month or two into this project. It is far better to choose two or three and focus on getting good at selling to that customer. It is so easy to get caught up in trying something new every single week, and never really making any money. Stick with a few, and master them.

Making Money Online -3 Keys to Traffic Generation

If you are just getting started online, you have visions of how much traffic there is, just floating around in the ether of the internet, just waiting for you to send it to your sales page. If you have been online for awhile, you know that there is a lot of traffic out there, but it is certainly not just waiting for you to send it to your sales page. And if you have been online for a long time, you know that it is not how much traffic you have, but what you do with that traffic that counts.

So, if you are a beginner: Build things right from the beginning. It is not just about sending all kinds of traffic to your web site and sitting back and hoping it will buy something. Instead, send traffic somewhere that allows you to develop a relationship with it. Get to know your traffic. What does it want? Let them get to know you. What do you have to offer them?

How do you do it? First build yourself a squeeze page or landing site or add a web form to your existing web pages that allows your visitors to opt in to your mailing list. Once on your mailing list, get to know them. Introduce yourself. Ask questions. Send useful information. Answer their questions.

So how do you get that traffic in the first place?

1) Write articles and submit them to online article directories. This is one of the best places to find quality, targeted traffic. One of the things I like about writing articles is that it gives me an opportunity to show my visitor, even before they are a visitor, what I am made out of. They can see my style, get a feel for my knowledge, without risking a thing. If they like me in the article, they can opt in to my mailing list and learn more from me. If they do not like my style, they can close the article without any further action.

2) Use pay-per-click campaigns like Adsense or Overture. These campaigns allow you to specifically bid on targeted keyword traffic and have it sent directly to your site. You are paying for this traffic, so it is important that you are able to convert a reasonable percentage of it to subscribers. Start slow, and don’t feel like you have to be the highest bidder in the game. It is perfectly OK to be in 6th place while you are developing your program.

3) Ezine advertising. This will be one of the more expensive types of traffic you obtain, especially since you pay once for it rather than as you go with pay-per-click. Start with less expensive ads, and as you test and tweak your ads, and they create more response, then upgrade and use those same ads in more expensive slots.
